Gateway to Honors: HNRS 1010
For the first semester of my college career, I registered for the course called Gateway to Honors, a required course for all University Honors students at UC. I was apprehensive at first, but this class became more than just a requirement to begin my Honors journey.
We began the course by creating our own significant timelines. I reflected on the highs and lows of my high school years and the learning experiences from the events to recall past moments and how they impacted where I was today. Next, I wrote a reflection on a current personal passion or interest. This reflection and the Gateway course helped me to understand that I can take my passion and transform it into a meaningful experience to share with the UC community. Finally, I created a mock Honors proposal focused on spreading awareness about peanut allergies, as I have a life-threatening peanut allergy. The creation of this Honors blog will give me documentation experience and serve as a means to recall past Honors experiences.
This course helped me gain a deeper understand of my reasons to attend UC and become a member of the Honors program. I learned life lessons from guided readings that will help me during my college journey and beyond. I learned about the resources and opportunities available to reach my goals. I will use the information from this course to ignite more initiatives during my future Honors experiences.

The first writing reflection assigned in this class consisted of writing about a personal passion or interest. My passion for raising peanut allergy awareness and finding a cure for peanut allergies is very dear to my heart. This reflection allowed me to define my interest to better clarify an explanation for those who are unaware of the severity of peanut allergies. In addition, the reflection was an opportunity to investigate and learn more about the initiatives in which I care deeply. My reflection is written in the What? So What? Now What? format.

Another assignment in my Gateway class consisted of creating a mock Honors proposal in order to learn about the depth, planning, and reflection needed in completing this process. This assignment allowed me to put my passion into a plan of action through an Honors proposal. Please read the attached document to read about what I would like to accomplish at the University of Cincinnati, regarding peanut allergy awareness and advocacy.
