Year-In-Review Year 3
As my third-year comes to a close at the University of Cincinnati, I'm realizing how fast time really does fly by. As I finished my fall semester, I realized that I was officially halfway through my college career... an exciting, but scary thought! Some of my proudest accomplishments during my third year revolve around student organization leadership and the Lindner co-op program. This year has helped me grow personally and professionally and I continually develop my leadership skills.
In August 2016, I led the University Honors Program Welcome Retreat for the second year in a row. It is one of my favorite activities to kick off the school year as I get to help transition incoming students into their first interaction at the University of Cincinnati. I'm thrilled to continue my involvement with the Honors Retreat this coming August as a retreat coordinator. As part of my duties in this role, I will manage all contact with the administration at Camp Kern to verify that we are logistically prepared for retreat. I will also be planning and leading the retreat leader training sessions to help the leaders form genuine connections and be prepared to lead the two-day camp.
One major accomplishment that occurred this year was my transition into the role of President of the Kolodzik Business Scholars Association. This is a very exciting role for me to undertake and many changes have already been implemented since my start in January. The board members on my team have been so dedicated to furthering the program and we've made great strides on our programming. I'm looking forward to continuing the hard work over the summer and fall.
In the spring semester, I opted out of classes to co-op for a Cincinnati region Accounting firm during tax busy season. This learning experience was incredible! I networked with many professionals, learned about potential careers, and worked extensive hours to complete the work with my team. Because of this experience, I feel that I am closer to determining what kind of job I am looking for post-graduation. I am proud of my efforts that I put into this co-op rotation as I received high remarks and the potential opportunity to work for the company again.
Over the course of this year, I've continued my involvement as a committee member of the Research Participant Advisory Council at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center where we focus on improving the medical research process. Research holds a special place in my heart after finishing a 3 year-long peanut allergy study last summer. I'm hopeful to enroll in a new study in the coming months to benefit peanut allergy research.
As I look forward to fall semester and the start of my fourth year, my goal is to dive deeply into the organizations I've recently committed to. I was recently appointed as an At-Large Representative on the Student Advisory Committee on the University Budget (SACUB). From the collection of student fees to the disbursement of these funds to organizations, SACUB is the only committee at the University that effects every student. During the budget review process, my Bearcat Pride will guide me in decisions that will benefit the University, as a whole. Students choose their own path at UC, but SACUB unites all paths in the form of this budget. I'm excited to serve as the Homecoming Parade Chair for the Student Alumni Council's Homecoming Week. I look forward to working with a strong team to make an effective, fun, and rewarding Homecoming experience for all of our alumni. I'm bringing many new ideas to the committee and I've found how important Homecoming is to our University.
One volunteer goal I have for the next semester is to get back involved with Bearcat Buddies. Due to an abnormal fall schedule in 2016, I couldn't fit any of the Bearcat Buddies time slots into my calendar. I've missed being a tutor to grade school students! As I think back to my experience at the LeaderShape Institute, my goal is to create a female empowerment organization within Cincinnati Public Schools focusing on fiscal responsibility and self-motivation. By serving as a tutor again, I feel as I will better reconnect with my goal and mission.
Up next: I'm starting my fourth year with a summer internship at a global Accounting firm! I'll be back to school in the fall, headed to Australia in December, and co-op during the spring again. Ciao for now!
